Press Attaché/Information Officer Joins U.S. Embassy Kabul Staff

KABUL, Afghanistan – U.S. Embassy Press Attaché Lou Fintor arrived in Kabul earlier this month to assume media responsibilities previously held by Elizabeth “Beth” Lee, who departed in February. He is based in the Embassy’s Public Affairs Section.

Mr. Fintor’s responsibilities include acting as the Embassy’s spokesman as well as facilitating media interviews, press briefings and other activities with the Ambassador and other Embassy officials. He comes to Embassy Kabul from the State Department’s Bureau of Public Affairs, Office of Press Relations in Washington, D.C. where he responded to U.S. and overseas press inquiries as a Department spokesman and assisted the Department’s senior spokesmen in preparation for televised daily media briefings. Mr. Fintor also worked at the U.S. Embassy in Budapest, Hungary as Assistant Press Attaché in 2003 and Acting Press Attaché in 2004.

He holds degrees in Journalism from both the University of Michigan and American University in the U.S. and did postgraduate work in Communications research at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Prior to joining the State Department, he was a reporter in the Washington, D.C. news bureaus of the Los Angeles Times, the Hartford Courant, and the Detroit News and was a writer and editor for United Press International, McGraw-Hill Publishing, and various other media concerns.
